My IS Day

Well, just like most individuals in my age group, I use many different Information Systems throughout the duration of my day. Below are a list of my daily IS activities and their relation to each of the 5 components of Information Systems.

Every day I use my laptop to check my e-mail. This means that;1. I use my laptop; being the hardware
2. I use my Internet connection as well as Windows 7 and Hotmail; all of which are software
3. I check my e-mail and send e-mails; this is the transmission and reception of data
4. moving back to turning the computer on, logging into my e-mail, and even typing e-mails and sending e-mails; these would all be considered procedures
5. and last but not least the receiver and sender of the e-mails, myself, being 'people'.

Every day I use my cellphone to send blackberry messages (bbm's). This means that;
1. I use my cellphone; being the hardware
2. I use my blackberry OS6 software as well as the blackberry messenger software and my wifi or data plan
3. I send and receive messages or data
4. when I type a message or make a status update, these are procedures. Even when I turn my phone on or connect to the Internet through wifi, these are all procedures.
5. and last but not least, once again, the receiver and senders of the blackberry messages, myself and/or "people".

Every day I use my Debit Card to make purchases. This means that;
1. I use my debit card as well as the ATM machine or Interac machine, being the hardware
2. I use the Interac software and its connecting network
3. I enter my pin when making purchases as well as when withdrawing cash. I can also chose which amount I would like to receive for cash back when making store purchases. These can all be considered "data" components.
4. When I type in my pin, choose the account I would like to withdraw from or credit a purchase to, and OK the decision; this would be considered procedures.
5. and lastly the people involved, which would be the bank, the bank tellers, the cashier, and myself.

Every day I use my computer to visit the Facebook web page. This means that;
1. I use my laptop; being the hardware
2. I use my Internet connection as well as Windows 7 and Facebook; all of which are software
3. I check my profile and post pictures, as well, I send and receive Facebook chat messages and private messages; this is the transmission and reception of data
4. moving back to turning the computer on, logging into my account, sending personal messages, making wall posts and uploading images or videos; these would all be considered procedures
5. and last but not least users or people involved, meaning the individuals who provide the Internet service, the people who provide the facebook network, myself and my friends.

Above are the Information Systems that I use on a daily basis and the most frequently. Information Systems are groups of components, 5 to be exact, that interact to produce information. (Computer Hardware, Software, Data, Procedures, and People)

Here is a link discussing DATA MINING and Information Systems that are used to do so.
